Hair extensions are a great solution for women who are growing weary of their traditional hair. Is your hair too thin, too short, or just plain boring? Hair extensions are definitely the answer. They may be a little expensive to purchase at first, but they are well worth it in the long-run. Here are a couple tips about which extensions to look for, how to apply them, and how to style your new and glamorous hair. Watch the video at the bottom of this page.

If you're having trouble watching the video below, don't worry, I have a video summary for you:

Tip 1: If you have short hair, make sure to tie up the very bottom hairs in the back of your head. I find all of the hair that likes to poke through at the bottom of my head and braid them. I then tie the small braid with a thin, clear elastic and wrap the braid into a small bun and bobby-pin it to my head. This takes care of the short hairs at the bottom that like to poke out of your long hair extensions.

*If you have long hair and are applying extensions for volume rather than length, disregard this tip.

Tip 2: Place your first hair extension clips just above your braided hair bun. Begin parting your hair, starting from the bottom, about an inch up the back of your head and apply your second hair extension. My hair extensions are clip-ins, so I make sure to clip them close to my parted hair line and wiggle them around so they are not catching and pulling on any little hairs in the process. I use my multi-clip hair extensions for the back of my head and the single clips for the side of my head.

Tip 3: When placing your multi-clip hair extensions to the back of your head, you should clip them each in about an inch above one another. Do not clip them close to the top of your head because you will be able to see them! You should only go up about a little more than half way up your head. You want your hair to be able to cover the clips at the top of your head so that your hair looks natural.

Tip 4: Place single clips anywhere between your layers where you feel you need it on the sides of your head. I have side bangs, so I like to place a single slip underneath my bangs close to my face so that it blends with the rest of my hair.

Tip 5: If your hair is curled, it hides the extensions better!

Tip 6: If your hair is straight, style it by pinning it half up/ half down to hide any short hairs that may want to show. I twisted my hair on both sides to style it and make it look natural.

Tip 7: Have some fun with your hair and purchase hair extensions that are colorful! I bought two dark brown single clips and I like to clip them right behind my ears on both sides. You can choose any color; red, purple, blue, green, etc.You can also buy blonde ones and dye them yourself.

Tip 8: Purchase your hair extensions from your local hair salon or beauty shop- or find out where I purchased mine below. Remember, buy hair extensions that are human hair or you will not be able to style them with hot irons and you will not be able to dye them. Always purchase hair extensions that are human hair.

Tip 9: It is better to purchase your hair extensions in person rather than online. Most hair extensions are non-refundable after purchase and you will want to buy the correct color! Purchasing them online is risky.

Wondering where I purchased my hair extensions?

Visit Sally Beauty by clicking on the link below:

My hair extensions are blonde, 18-inch clip-in extensions. I visited this store in person rather than online.
